munoz-SB2404State Senator Tony Munoz voted on legislation that would help to solve the pension crisis facing the state of Illinois.

“Unfortunately, the pension funds have never been adequately funded,” Munoz said. “Currently, Illinois has to make increased payments to ensure the funds can continue to support retirees.  This proposal will provide some stability of the pension systems for future generations.”

Munoz-motorcyclesState Senator Tony Munoz passed a resolution out of the Senate declaring May as motorcycle awareness month throughout the state.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month is a national initiative designed to encourage drivers of all vehicles and motorcyclists to “share the road” with each other.

Increasing safe riding and cooperation between all road users and motorcyclists will help to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our nation’s highways.

“There are over 610,000 registered motorcyclists throughout Illinois, and with the weather warming up, it is a good time to remind drivers to be aware of their presence on our roads,” noted Munoz.

Motorcyclists have all the same rights and privileges as any motor vehicle driver on the roadway. During Motorcycle Awareness Month in May - and during the rest of the year - drivers of all other vehicles and all road users are reminded to safely "share the road" with motorcyclists, and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe.

immigration reformAfter decades of failed attempts, several state senators celebrated the introduction of an immigration reform bill in the U.S. Senate that addresses the problems affecting thousands of residents represented by these Illinois legislators.

“It’s a good start and we know it will not contain everything we want but, without a doubt, it is a first step to solve the problems faced by millions of immigrants. I’m glad this conversation has started,” said Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago).

“It was time to have a law that addresses this issue. Locally, I have seen thousands of my constituents experience great hardship by the lack of action in Washington D.C.,” said Senator Linda Holmes (D-Aurora).
