SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) wants to extend the legislature’s work to combat hepatitis C with a measure that passed the Senate on Tuesday.
“This virus is curable, but detection and awareness are key factors,” Munoz said. “It’s Hepatitis Awareness Month, and there’s no better time to continue our dedication to bringing awareness to this virus.”
The Hepatitis C Task Force was established in 2013. It is comprised of 17 members and functions within the Department of Public Health.
House Bill 1660 extends the work of the task force through Jan. 1, 2017.
“Hepatitis C continues to affect communities across the state,” Munoz said. “We need to continue our work to prevent complications that result from this virus.”
The legislation now heads to the governor’s desk for final approval.
